How to repair furniture and vintage pin dovetail joint?
I inherited some antique furniture / vintage my grandmother. Over the years, it has been used by my younger brothers and is now destroyed. I want to keep the pieces (dresser, vanity w, mirror and bedside table) in the family as long as possible, but the drawers are not strong! They were put together using the "Pin and dovetail" common connection and when I pull the drawer the drawer front may break away (embarrassing and time consumption). I painted the furniture, a chocolate color rather and obtained new buttons, but ……. How can I fix those pesky seals quickly, easily and correctly??
first remove all old glue on the furniture. Now go to a hardware store and buy furniture glue, apply to dry overnight and be back drawers functioning again. It should work very well, but you must remove all the old glue before considering another. lite sanding may be the stuff that you know when you look at it. I too love the old furniture and some experience in finishing furniture again.
